The winners of the 2019 instalment of the ‘Best of Honduras: Late Harvest’ auction have been announced.

The top scoring coffees and their producers were awarded at a ceremony at IHCAFE in Santa Barbara, Honduras in front of a crowd of coffee producers, judges and IHCAFE staff.

The auction program, which is conducted over several months and involves both National and International judging rounds, receives and scores late-harvested coffees from across Honduras.

Former ‘Best of Honduras’ judge and Project Origin General Manager, Habib Maarbani says that this program gives recognition to producers who would often go overlooked.

“Most of the coffees grown in Honduras are harvested much earlier in the year than what we see at this auction,” he says.

“Honduras’ terrain is full of unique micro climates which cause slow ripening and different maturation of coffee cherries. We began this auction program so that producers who grow these exceptional coffees aren’t overlooked by international buyers and get the recognition they deserve.”

The highest scoring coffee of the 2019 program came from producer Kelvin Pineda and his farm, Los Andes. Kelvin’s washed bourbon scored more than 90 points after several rounds of cupping from an International Jury of judges.

The top 23 scoring coffees, eight of which have scored more than 89 points, will be released to an online auction at 0000 AEST, Sunday July 28.

“We’ve had such great success connecting these producers to buyers around the world – we’re hoping for even greater success this year and that the prices reflect the incredible quality of these coffees.”

For those wishing to participate in the auction, registration must be completed before the commencement of the auction via the auction page.
